Just In: Former Rhythm City actor ‘Zola Hashatsi’ caught impersonating a medical doctor
At Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, a nurse‘s alertness appears to have prevented a potential disaster when television personality Zola Hashatsi allegedly impersonated a doctor and attempted to treat a patient in one of the wards.
Former Rhythm City actor Zola Hashatsi was arrested after impersonating a medical doctor. Police detained Hashatsi at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, where he provided medical advice to patients. Hashatsi had been impersonating to be a doctor since 2022 and had even been hired as a ‘medical professional’ at a local clinic.
He had also been offering medical advice to patients via his social media accounts, claiming to be a medical doctor. Hashatsi’s deception was discovered after a patient at the hospital noticed that he was wearing a stethoscope and a lab coat with a doctor’s name tag, even though he did not have a medical license.

When confronted by hospital staff, he initially claimed to be a Johannesburg doctor but could not prove his credentials. Zola Hashatsi was arrested and charged with fraud and impersonating a medical doctor. He was also charged with practising medicine without a license.
The incident has sparked a heated debate on social media, with many condemning Zola Hashatsi ‘s actions and arguing that such behaviour should not be tolerated. Others, however, have argued that it is understandable why someone would want to impersonate a medical doctor, given the current state of the health care system in South Africa.
