Clarisa Mfeka, the former Gagasi FM presenter, has opened up about her experience working with radio presenter and actor Kininonke “Kini” Shandu.
In a two-part video on Tuesday, Mfeka said she felt justified for the first time in years, and she thought he deserved the criticism Shandu got for a Facebook post about women.
Mfeka told how she faced disrespect from Shandu in a work environment in 2016 when she was co-hosting a midday show with Shandu who had been doing the show for years. “It was terrible working with him. I did not know this man before working with him,” Mfeka said. “From the day we met with management, it was terrible and if our content producer was not there to help us, I might not have added anything to the show.” She said Shandu did not want to plan how to make the show better.
“He made me feel so useless. The disrespect was very loud and he made me feel like I should not be there. He showed me his hate for me.
“I tried to find reasons for why he was acting like that, so I could understand.” Mfeka said Shandu would even turn off the microphone when she was talking on air, scold her off-air and doubt everything that she did.
“I was just trying to survive for a whole year, I did not like going to work because of that man. I told management how I felt but nothing changed.
“Everyone in that building knew that we did not like each other and people would ask and warn me, saying that he hated me.”
She said she remembers the bad experience in her radio career, because it was the worst time for her, and there were many things that happened between them when they were co-hosting the show.
“When he left the station, Felix Hlophe took his place and I did things that were strange and wrong.
“Felix made me feel better and erased all the bad memories that I had. He lit up my fire, he was the big brother that I needed for my career to have a chance.”
