Thuso Mbedu started her career in 2014 when she scored an acting gig in the second season of Isibaya. After killing her role on Isibaya to excellency, she bagged another acting gig on Scandal! as a journalism student and wild daughter of Kitso in 2015. That same year, Thuso had a recurring role as Khetin on the SABC 2 teen drama series Snake Park. She, however, struggled to score another acting role for a year after her appearance in Snake Park.
Fortune favours the bold; Thuso won her first starring role in television in the Mzansi Magic teen drama series Is’thunzi premiered in October 2016. In the series, she portrayed Winnie as a sassy go-getter who dreams of marrying a rich rugby player, only to have her dreams shattered when she is exiled to stay with her cruel aunt.
She nailed her role as Winnie so well; since then, she has been winning big in her acting career. Mbedu made her international debut in the 2021 Amazon Video historical series The Underground Railroad. She won a Hollywood Critics Association Award, an Independent Spirit Award and a Gotham Award for the series. As of late, she scored an acting gig in The Woman King; she will be in the lead cast, starring alongside Oscar Award winner Viola Davis.
