Fake cigarettes have flooded South Africa. Recently two police officers demonstrated how business people and the general public are being scammed by fake cigarette sellers. Chinese cigarettes are also flooding the market. The tobacco is believed to be smuggled or made using makeshift factories erected to take advantage of the lockdown cigarette ban.

Since the ban of tobacco products when the lockdown started during mid March, South Africans have been struggling to get access to cigarettes. Unscrupulous dealers have taken advantage the situation push fake cigarette packages into the market.
