Eastern Cape family digs and unwraps Covid-19 corpse to perform rituals
Some families are not happy with the new normal when it comes to burying their relatives. They say the spirits of their loved ones are not able t rest as they are not buried with dignity.
Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane says The Health Department must look into the issue of burying people in plastics as they believe it is causing their family members to suffocate in their graves.
“People are protesting that the deceased relative was buried in plastic is haunting them complaining about various things. They believe that although they are dead, they are still talking to us,” said the Eastern Cape Premier.
The Faleni family has been having sleepless nights being haunted by their relative who died in July last year.
“We are having sleepless nights, dreaming calling him to come inside his house. And he would respond, how can I come into my house wearing a rain suit,” said a family member.
The family decided to break Covid-19 regulations, dug up the grave of their relative and removed three layers of plastic wrapped around their father’s body and reburied him.
A traditional expert says there is a connection between the dead and the living. The expert joined many families in calling the government to revisit Covid-19 burial protocols.
