Dumi Mokstad And Wife Traditional Wedding Ceremony
Gospel musician Dumi Mokstad and his wife Ziphozenkosi Ndzimande celebrated one year of legal marriage with a traditional wedding.
Mokstad’s wife showered her in-laws with gifts on Saturday.
The event was held at Dumi real name Mdumiseni Ndzimande’s home in Mount Ayliff, Eastern Cape. The umembeso ceremony where the new wife gives her in-laws gifts kickstarted the event, followed by the umbondo ceremony where she serves them food.
After the event, Ziphozenkosi said she was officially Dumi’s wife. She said she had been waiting for the traditional marriage ceremony for over a year. Mokstad’s wife said the day started off with the umembeso and umbondo ceremonies. She said after the ceremonies, Dumi’s family opened their gates and she was officially welcomed into her husband’s family. She was elated when they accepted her gifts because it meant they accepted her as their daughter-in-law.
She added that the ceremony is significant to her because it means she is now one of the Ndzimandes. Ziphozenkosi said it officially marked her new journey as Dumi’s wife. In line with Xhosa culture, Ziphozenkosi also got a new name, Zethembio Zenkosi. She said she got the name from her mother-in-law and it becomes her name from now on.
A cow and four sheep were slaughtered to welcome Dumi’s new wife into the family. He said the ceremony was also of significance to him because his wife had not been officially welcomed by his family. He added that the traditional wedding marks the final leg of their journey as husband and wife.
He said that he would have loved to have a bigger wedding but he had to stick to the covid-19 lockdown regulations.
