Cases of Ebola have resurfaced in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with four of the 5 cases now deceased according to Health Minister Eteni Longondo.
“INRB has confirmed to us that the samples from Mbandaka tested positive for Ebola,” Longondo announced at a press conference on Monday. Another case was announced on Monday morning. The deadly disease is feared to have spread across the north western region.
The Minister promised to send vaccines andd medicines at the earliest possible time is expected to visit Mbandaka, the largest city in the Equateur Province.
The deadly pandemic is infected 54 people in May 2018 with 33 fatalities during a period of four months. The vaccines was promptly administered resulting in lower infection rates.
Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus, the WHO boss assured the people of the DRC that WHO has already dispatched a team to look into the situation.
The Health Minister believes the Province has enough capacity in knowledge and resources to respond to the escalating situation as they have previously dealt with Ebola cases.

The epidemic killed 2,280 people in the eastern region of the country since August 2018. The region is characterised by a never ending civil war of armed groups that started 20 years ago.
The region experienced an Ebola case in April which jeopardised their hopes off being declared Ebola free.
The disease visited the DRC in 1976 and until today they are nursing their 11th outbreak.
Ebola spreads through contact of bodies and through body fluids. The Minister has urged the citizens to remain vigilant, avoid touching the dead and practicing hygiene.
