Life Facts about Dr Duma Ndlovu the man behind Imbewu, Uzalo, and Muvhango
Dr Duma Ndlovu is a South African executive producer, creator, and director of soapies Muvhango (1997), Imbewu – The Seed (2018), and Uzalo (2015).
Born in Soweto on 12 October 1954 his roots however are traced back to Bergville, KwaZulu Natal, Duma Ndlovu went to Sekano Ntoane High School in Senaoane.
After finishing high school, Ndlovu went on to write for The World newspaper before founding his own Medupe Writers Association before it was banned by the apartheid government.
In 1992 Duma Ndlovu founded the Word Of Mouth Productions which is responsible for Muvhango, Uzalo, and Imbewu amongst other television productions.
Despite being Zulu, his first major project Muvhango is Venda, not Zulu, Dr Duma Ndlovu defended his production
“The organization that is today known as ICASA, it was called IBA then; they called on the SABC to start featuring marginalized languages. I saw a gap, Zulu is not a marginalized language; in fact, Zulu is the majority language in South Africa so I then decided to write in the smallest South African language, Tshivenda, because I was familiar with it. I’d learned it as a child and I was familiar with the cultures. I thought it would make an impact, and it did so the reading of the situation was quite correct”

In 2018 Dr Ndlovu dropped a bombshell when is insinuated that he won’t hire cast members without degree qualifications.
“If acting is your passion and you want to see yourself on a top soapie like Muvhango, forget it if you don’t have an acting degree.
“I am very unlikely to hire someone who does not have an acting diploma or degree unless it is somebody who has been in the industry for a very long time,” he said.
Dr Duma Ndlovu children and Net Worth
Dr Duma Ndlovu is a father to many including daughters, Nobukhosi and Nobuhle, son Mbulelo Makapela but currently, single, his income comes mainly from Word of Mouth productions and interests in Real estate and farming. His net worth is valued at $6million in 2021.
