Distruction Boyz duo has decided to take Mampintsha and Babes Wodumo to court over unpaid royalties.
Distruction Boys claims they haven’t made any money from their production of the hit song, Wololo. The song is estimated to have generated at least R15 million, none of which was paid to Distruction Boyz. The matter was raised in 2018 when Mampintsha, Mandla Maphumulo, committed to paying Distruction Boyz what they are owed. However, the duo never followed through. Distruction Boyz is not the first artists owed by Mampintsha and Babes Wodumo as there have been reports of the duo not paying their dancers among other groups.
“There has been so much income that Mampintsha didn’t give us. It is royalties. It is endorsements. It has been caller tunes, downloads. Even Black Panther. He said he wasn’t getting any money but we spoke to other people and they said they were paid. Wololo was the biggest song in the country. It feels like we are being exploited and that he forgot about us. He doesn’t want to communicate with us. We haven’t even got one cent from him and it’s been two years now,” Goldmax said.
Distruction Boyz sue Mampintsha and Babes Wodumo
Last week in MacG’s podcast, Babes Wodumo, Bongekile Simelane, admitted to having blown her millions from Wololo. The singer admitted to having misused money and faltered on payments to many people.
“When fame came to me, I was still a child. I didn’t know much about saving and when I look back there are many things that make me say, if fame cam at the stage I am at now. there are many things I would have done differently,” she said in the podcast.
However, that wasn’t the only thing about Babes Wodumo’s interview with MacG that raised brows. During the interview, Mampintsha called multiple times to confirm that she is really in an interview. At some point Babes Wodumo had to take a video to prove that she really was in an interview. However, the couple is apparently happily in love with lobola negotiations having been done and them waiting for their wedding which will air on their upcoming reality show, Uthando Lodumo”. The show was postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions. During the interview, Babes spoke about how in spite of their challenges, Mandla is a very loving man and different from a younger man who just wants to sleep with her and leave.
