Dupped as the goddess of radio, earlier this year, Unathi Nkayi trended after the news that she was fired from Idols SA went viral. She kissed goodbye to her Idols SA job leaving many heartbroken as they had grown fond of her personality. After her exit from Idols, Unathi has focused on her radio career and being a gym bunny.
It’s true when another closes, another one opens. After Unathi departed from Idols SA, she scored a radio gig on STAR 91.9 FM’s All-Star Drive. She is doing well in her career behind the mic and has gained a massive following on radio. Although she is famous, not much about Unathi’s private life is known to the public. The star is a highly educated entertainer with two Degrees to show for it. Unathi did not wake up an entertainer; she attended University to perfect her craft.

Unathi Nkayi has the brains and the beauty to compliment it, the heavyweight in the entertainment industry was born in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape. She grew up under the guardians of her caring parents, who supported her dream of becoming an entertainer. Unathi received the support she needed from her parents and her family which built her courage to chase her dreams.
She studied her matric at Victoria Girls High School in Grahamstown. After matric, Unathi travelled to the Netherlands, where she pursued a degree in International Media Studies from the University of Utrecht. She stayed abroad for more than four years studying for her degree and later relocated to Mzansi.
Upon coming back, Unathi persuaded another Degree in Journalism at Rhodes University, she is the epitome of hard work and stops at nothing to be successful.
A look at Unathi Nkayi’s career
Unathi started her career in the entertainment industry after finishing her higher tertiary education. She was hired on Popstars, a popular television show where she co-hosted with Rowan Cloete. In 2004 she scored a radio gig on the famous YFM, lasted for sixteen years, and departed in 2020. Unathi joined Metro FM in 2014 and remained with the station until 2017. She later resurrected her radio career in 2020 and joined Kaya FM, where she works.
The heavyweight entertainer joined Idols SA in 2011 as a judge, and she stayed on the show for more than a decade. On Idols, Unathi was the only female judge, and she co-judged with the iconic stars Somizi Mhlongo and Randall Abrahams.
