The actor who plays Dr Bhengu in Durban Gen, Thokozisa Ziqubu, was an Uber Driver before getting his big break on Durban Gen.
Thokozisa Ziqubu has opened up about his life before his role in Durban Gen. The actor, after some time of auditioning and not getting any parts. Still, auditioning found another way to make money. Thokozisa got a job as an Uber driver despite how dangerous it is. The actor has spoken about being hijacked twice while he was on the job having his valuables stolen and his life put at risk.
From Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu Natal, the actor had relocated to Johannesburg in search of greener pastures. However, he realized that jobs were hard to come by in the performing arts industry while he was there. Thokozisa was with a passenger driving them when he received a call from The production team at Durban Gen telling him that he got the role. The actor says that he cried when he got the news and couldn’t believe his luck.
Thokozisa Ziqubu’s education qualifications and acting career
Thokozisa Ziqubu graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Live Performance in 2019. He has been featured in Mzansi Wethu productions like Ndithande and Amathafa. However, he states that Durban Gen was his big break and most significant Television role.
Dr Bhengu started appearing on Durban Gen at the beginning of the second season. His character is a medical intern who will say and do anything to be in good books with his superiors. However, Bhengu has shown that he has trouble with his family as he is the breadwinner with the help of his mother. His sisters have a lot of kids who they do not help take care of, and he has to take care of them.
