Deborah Fraser’s funeral ceremony took place on Saturday in Durban already. Still, her body could not be taken to the cemetery because of the floods that have hit Durban very hard for the second time this year.
A week ago, the departed Fraser died at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto.
According to Busi Zikode, the family’s spokesperson, the undertaker advised that it was unsafe to proceed to the cemetery to commit Fraser’s body because it was flooded.
According to Sowetan Live, the family will resume the burial on Tuesday, May 24th.
Deborah Fraser was due to be buried at the Lalakahle Private Cemetery on Saturday, but heavy rains started to fall in the morning of the day. Her body was taken back to the mortuary.
Fraser’s funeral ceremony took place at Station Venue in Durban.
The ceremony was attended by dignitaries in the Music, particularly the Gospel industry and her loved ones.
The service was filled with music as stars performed and shared great stories about the late musician.
Yvonne Chaka Chaka, who had known Deborah Fraser since the 80s when Deborah sang background vocals for her, said she spoke to her before her death, and Deborah told her that she would be ok.
“She is ok now, and she feels no pain.” Yvonne has shared pictures of their youth with Deborah during the 80s on her Instagram page.
Pastor Benjamin Dube also shared the conversation he had on his last phone call to Fraser, saying he asked her to do a song with him.
The singer said Deborah wanted to speed up the process of their collaboration.
“It was almost like she knew she didn’t have much time.”
This year, KZN is experiencing a second wave of heavy rains in just a month. Over 400 people lost their lives in April due to the heavy floods that wiped away buildings and homes. This saw many families destitute and having to move into shelters.
This time, a warning of the possible rainfall was issued, unlike in April.
Deborah Fraser’s family was told that her grave was flooded and couldn’t be used to commit her body.
The family said the preparations for her burial on Tuesday are underway as the rains stopped on Sunday.
