Deal Gone Wrong: Lerato Kganyago sues Bathu owner Theo Baloyi over ambassadorship
A legal showdown seems to be before us, and it can get nasty from the looks of things. Celebrated media personality Lerato Kganyago and Bathu sneaker owner Theo Baloyi are at loggerheads after crumbling one of their business deals.
Close sources have it that Lerato’s agency Alchemy Consult has served Bathu letters demanding a whopping R315 000 of the R600 000 she was promised after Bathu terminated her ambassadorial contract. The sneaker line, with immediate effect, relieved Lerato from her duties after a fallout.
Given a considerable following, Bathu offered her a contract for 12 months to market and put their brand in the spotlight. She was appointed last March, and one of the clauses was that she had to attend at least 60% of Bathu stores official openings. She was not only going to be the face of the sneaker line just like others but was expected to.
According to their leaked contract, Kganyago was to perform at official openings of the stores. Bathu was to secure the equipment for her and foot the travelling expenses and accommodations.

Bathu agreed to pay Lerato a whopping R600 000 for her service’s. They managed to settle her R285 00, R185 000 and R35 000 before a fallout.
According to Lerato called in for an update on her payments only to be told that her contract had since been terminated. A letter from Bathu that dates 6 November was the one that issued out her contract termination.
In response, Lerato is demanding what they owe her, and that’s a fine tune of R315 000 including legal fees. She also included interest in the amount mentioned above; the rate was 7.5%.
However, in the mix of things, Bathu is yet to give a detailed statement regarding the ambassadorial woes that have soiled the sneaker’s line name. The showdown will go down in the history books as one of the high profile suing cases for South Africa’s entertainment industry.
