ZBC Management Should Be Charged With Attempted Murder- Zanu PF MP
Zanu PF MP for Gokwe Nembudziya Justice Mayor Wadyajena has said the State broadcaster ZBC management should be charged with attempted murder after its employees tested positive for COVID-19.
Wadyajena who is also Parliamentary Portfolio Committee Chairperson: Lands, Agriculture, Water, and Rural Resettlement and ZANU-PF Midlands Youth League Secretary for Administration accused ZBC management of being negligent.
Writing on Twitter, Wadyejena said, “ZBC management must be charged for attempted murder! It’s a cruel & reckless institution run like a shabeen. Tested employees on 29th & released results 10 DAYS later while demanding staff report to work EVEN MINIBUS DRIVERS IT KNEW HAD TESTED POSITIVE! Disgraceful and criminal!”

On Tuesday evening, the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) notified the public that thirty members of staff have tested positive for COVID-19.
ZBC said it continues to follow Government and World Health Organisation guidelines with periodic testing, premises disinfection and PPE provision. The notice reads, “The ZBC wishes to advise that 30 members of staff have tested positive for Covid-19. All 30 are currently isolating at home. The Corporation continues to follow Govt & WHO guidelines with periodic testing, premises disinfection & PPE provision.”
Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Ndavaningi Nick Mangwana wished the staff members a speedy recovery.
He said only five are showing mild symptoms and the rest are asymptomatic, Mangwana said, “We wish all ZBC staff members who tested positive a quick recovery. We are comforted in that of the 30 who are positive, only 5 are showing mild symptoms and the rest are asymptomatic. We have always said Media Staff are frontline workers. These results attest to that.”
As of August 10 2020, Zimbabwe had 4 748 confirmed cases, including 1 524 recoveries and 104 deaths.
