Well in the wake of the 3rd wave South Africa seems to be battling in controlling the new wave. In the mix of things, over 9000 cases have been recorded.
However as of Thursday, 10 June, the cumulative number of detected Covid-19 cases is 1,722,086, with 9149 new cases identified which represents a 15.7% positivity rate, National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) spokesperson, Sinenhlanhla Jimoh, said.

This means that South Africa has entered the third wave of Covid-19 infections, according to the NICD.
“The majority of new cases today are from the Gauteng province [61%], followed by the Western Cape [10%] province. Both the Free State and North West provinces accounted for 6%,” Jimoh said.
However, the new statistics got Mzansi talking. Rumour has it that the President will be having a family meeting soon. The spike in infection has led to an uproar by EFF. The party is calling on for the immediate closure of schools and other business so as to contain and monitor the deadly third wave.

The alleged 3rd wave is scaring everyone and the increase in the number of infections mostly in schools has pushed the EFF leader Julius Malema to call for immediate closure of contact learning.

Speaking to the media Julius Malema said if the government does not close schools then EFF will close schools themselves.
“Following the announcement of the Third Wave, under the rising number of infections we call on immediate closure of contact learning. We give the minister 7 days to close schools, failure to do that we will close the schools ourselves as the EFF. We can’t risk losing our kids,” he said.
Knowing EFF the party members might protest and when they say they will do something they do it. This comes after a school in Actonville was reported to have been overwhelmed by the increase in covid-19 cases. On the 31st of May, the President called for a family meeting which resulted in South Africa moving to lockdown level 2.
