The Zimbabwe government allegedly paid USD 66,375 for test kits that were only purchased for USD 300 from Jaji Investmentsaccording to prominent journalist Hopewell Chin’ono.
Hopewell Chin’ono posted on Twitter, “My investigations in China where Jaji ACTUALLY bought test kits as opposed to Obadiah Moyo’s LIE that they are from Namibia show that it paid 6 cents per kit, then charged the Zim Government US14.75 per kit. It was paid US66375 for something it valued at US300.”

His utterances follows an investigation into the procurement of Covid-19 personal protective equipment scandal in Zimbabwe which has come to be known as the Covidgate. The Ministry o Health procured test kits from a Namibian company called Jaji Investments. More irregularities were discovered such as the fact that Namibia had earlier on banned the exportation of Covid-19 medical supplies. Also at the same period the Namibian government donated Covid-19 supplied to Zimbabwe and it raised questions whether the government actually procured test kits or it labelled donations as a purchase. Jaji Investments is reported to be owned by President Mnangagwa’s nephew Garikai Prince Mushininga.
