Death in service: The UK government has announced the amount to be paid to the families who lose loved ones in the frontline due to the covid-19 pandemic. Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Matt Hancock made the announcement this evening.
“82 National Health Service (NHS) workers and 16 social care frontline staff have passed on due to the pandemic so far,” Hancock said during a daily briefing.
Hancock emphasised the payments do not replace lives but the government felt a sense of duty to the those who die whilst defending the country from the invisible enemy.
The Unites kingdom currently has 157,000 cases and 21,092 deaths
