One more person has died of Covid 19 at a private hospital in Harare bringing the country’s total deaths to four.
The patient was from Mhondoro
An 82 yr old woman from Mhondoro Mashonaland West province has died of covid 19 at Westend hospital, Harare, bringing to 4 the total number of Covid-19 deaths in the country. She passed away around 2am Min of Health & Child Care Dr Moyo confirmed.
Dr Margaret Maulana Exec Director Health Care Services Premier Service Medical Investments said they have now closed the casualty area and WestEnd hospital has been fumigated
Confirming the death on the sidelines of a WHO donation of PPE and a PCR machine in Harare today, Health and Child care Minister Dr Obadiah Moyo said contact tracing began last night following the demise of this case.
He said authorities were also working flat out to trace the source of infection.
“We are still trying to trace the source of infection for this case, so far we only know that the case came from Mhondoro,” said Minister Moyo.
Identity of victim revealed
According to Professor Jonathan Moyo, the 82 year old victim is believed to be a mother to Sylvester Nguni, former minister of state in former VP Joice Mujuru’s office. It is believed that acatalogue of errors were made at Westend Hospital.
The victim’s family was told not to worry “as it was just pneumonia & old age” by one of the senior doctors.
A senior doctor is believed to have shouted at juniors who were asking the right questions about the 82 year old Gogo Nguni’s condition.
