Corona virus can survive in the air, a new study has proved.
The World Health Organisation is considering measures to curb the transmission of Corona virus through the air. The need for new measures comes after a study that proved the virus can survive in the air if the conditions are permitting.
The virus can suspend in the air, remain airborne and can be transmitted depending on the air temperature and the humidity levels WHO officials said.
Methods of transmission known before
Corona virus survives and is transmitted in fluids or droplets of liquids. When someone coughs, the droplets carry the virus to the net person. The droplets might fall on a surface, say a table, a chair, cup or a plate. The virus stays there for a few days depending on conditions such as temperature and humidity. WHO officials also said the virus can be transmitted through human to human contact.
According to CNBC, Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, head of WHO’s emerging diseases and zoonosis unit told reporters. “When you do an aerosol-generating procedure like in a medical care facility, you have the possibility to what we call aerosolize these particles, which means they can stay in the air a little bit longer.”
She further went on to urge medical staff and people exposed to infected people to take other additional steps to protect themselves in these cirumstances.
Health workers are advised to wear N95 masks to reduce the risk of contracting airborne virus.
