Confirmed: Lawrence Maleka and Bontle Modiselle to host the SAMA’s
The annual SAMA awards are before us and the awards runners have confirmed the awards hosts. Yes, this time around the awards will be hosted by former Club 808 presenters. Lawrence Maleka and Bontle Modiselle made all sorts of headlines when they hosted the musical show Club 808 and they once again reunite on the SAMA’s. However, Bontle will be returning once again after headlining the SAMA 25.
The awards are slated for 31 July and will be aired on SABC1 at 2000hrs. It has been confirmed that the red carpet starts at 1930hrs on RGB. Many questions have been asked why Modiselle again? No doubt she got the plug and her unmatched hosting skills are just out of this world. Well to those who might not know much about her she has become one of the most celebrated Tv personalities in Mzansi.
Modiselle Moloi was born in Soweto and is one of the most prominent dancers in South Africa. In the last 15 years, she has managed to straddle the worlds of choreography, live performance, radio, TV and film.
She launched her Bontle Ba Afrika production company in 2017 sourcing talent and choreography for major corporate clients. Her hosting skills have been on display in a few live events and shows on radio and TV including Showville on SABC2.

However on the other hand Maleka has made a name for himself in the entertainment industry. He’s thrust into the limelight came when he secured a gig with a community broadcaster in Soweto. A few years later he is best known for his stellar performances on the drama series The River. He was also the host of Final Cut on SABC3. Incidentally, he hosted the music show Club 808 with Modiselle Moloi.
Several star performers this year were snubbed from the awards nominees despite being outstanding performers. Boity was even nominated for an Album award yet she doesn’t even have one. Cassper Nyovest was snubbed too. Kelly Khumalo recently told the organisers of the awards to pull her songs out of the awards after she felt that she deserved more and the awards were biased as they left out many top performers who raised the bar for Mzansi across the continent.
The main topical issue was the snubbing of Makhadzi. Yes, she was snubbed by the SAMAs this year and it seems her fans will not be taking it lying down.
Taking to social media, many Makhadzi fans raged over how the awards seem to have an aversion to artists from Limpopo. This comes after Limpopo-born Master KG was also rejected after he submitted Jerusalema for consideration.
