Clicks in racism storm, labels African hair dry and damaged
Retail pharmacy company Clicks has been dragged for ‘racist’ promotional material after it labeled African hair dry and damaged.
In two images on the company‘s website, one shows an black woman’s hair labeled as frizzy and dull hair. Another picture of a white woman compared is labeled ‘normal’ hair.
In another picture, again a black woman’s hair is labeled dry and damaged hair, and a white woman’s hair is labeled fine flat hair.
The labels have not sit well with South Africans and they have dragged the company over its advertising ideas.

“Racism make people believe we have “hard, strong unruly” hair when we actually have delicate, fragile, sensitive Afro hair that needs to be babied. So sensitive we have to wrap it in silk at night, and leave it untouched for it to grow. Black hair is political. Fcuk Clicks. Black women have been telling you all for decades that our hair is stigmatized. But other Black people were too busy downing Black women for wearing weaves and wigs. Assimilation has been a necessary evil,” posted a woman by the name Khumalo on Twitter.
Her post was followed by other people calling for the boycott of Clicks’pharmacies.
“We need to get to a point where our money speaks for us. It’s clear that Clicks doesn’t value our Rand let’s move to other alternatives,” said another.
In another image posted by a customer, Clicks was accused of portraying black women as single parents and white women with their husbands.
“Why are you perpetuating the “black women are single parents” stereotype? Like why doesn’t the black lady have her husband there too?” a woman identified as Nomhlekgabo queried.
Clicks are yet to respond to the latest storm they are facing over classification of hair.
