Checkers Heist: Robbers posing as Covid-19 Health Workers rob Checkers of R200 000
Checkers Heist, Four robbers pounced a Checkers supermarket at Scottsville Mall In Pietermaritzburg and robbed a figure around R200 000.
Pietermaritzburg police spokesperson, Sergeant Mthokozisi Ngobese, said four men armed with guns robbed the Checkers supermarket at Scottsville Mall at around 8.30 am today.
Ngobese said the men got away with an undisclosed amount of money and police are still searching for the robbers. No shots were fired and no one was injured.
The Witness understands that the robbers, who used the Alan Paton Avenue entrance of the mall, stole about R200 000 from the pension payout at the supermarket.
The supermarket is still closed and pensioners who were queuing outside the store after the incident have been told that the supermarket will not be making any pension payouts today and were advised to go to other facilities to draw their grants.
