The divorce rate in South Africa has increased due to the nationwide lockdown as part of the government’s efforts to reduce the spread of Covid-19. Celeb couples have not been immune to these separations. We look at celeb couples that separated during the national lockdown.
Lerato Kganyago and Thami Ndlala
The couple’s divorce was the most talked about as they barely spent a month as husband and wife. Lerato announced the split in a Instagram post. Rumuor was rife that Lerato found out Thami Ndlala was a fraudster and a wanted man. There was also speculation that Thami did not own the houses and cars he used to bait Lerato into a marriage. With Thami entitled to half of Lerato’s property, South Africans were quick to point out that Lerato was going to lose from the divorce. She shot down the claims by a Twitter post saying, “Relax, no one will touch what i call mine.”
Zodwa Wabantu and Vusi Bhuthelezi
Dancer Zodwa Wabantu announced her split from Ben 10 boyfriend Vusi Buthelezi. She says even though they were living under one roof, they were no longer an item. Tension started when Zodwa lost property worth over R100,000 to robbers during the lockdown.
Kay Sibiya and Judie Kama
Uzalo actor Kay Sibiya announced the breakup on Instagram. “After much thought and consideration Judie and I have decided to separate on amicable terms.I have much respect for her and I will always hold her in high esteem and regard.”

LootLove and Reason
Lootlove was the first to announce the split. She posted a statement on Instagram, part of which read, “Sizwe and I have separated, however, we continue to partner gracefully in raising our beautiful kids.” Th e couple did not disclose the reasons behind the split.
Lootlove’s real name is Luthando Shosha. She is a radio and TV personality and she hosts Live AMP Music show on SABC 1. Reason is a South African rapper best known for his song Nkosi Yam.
