South African actress, Lerato Nxumalo will be leaving Mzansi’s medical series, Durban Gen. The actress plays Dr Ndabezinhle Luthuli, a surgical intern. The actress is set to join the upcoming series, Lingashoni.
While the circumstances surrounding the cancelation of her character are unclear, Entertainment Reporter, Phil Mphela has confirmed the news.
Lerato Nxumalo is not the first member of the Durban Gen cast to leave the show this year. Dr Mchunu played by Fanele Zulu left the show 3 months after bagging the role.

Bonga Dlamini was also a fresh change to the cast list. He plays the character of Ringo.
Ringo was a normal man and was a father who loved his daughter until he was wrongfully accused of raping his daughter. His girlfriend and baby mama are the one who accused him of raping her. Life in prison isn’t easy for rapists and Ringo had it hard. He was abused in prison and he killed one of the people who was abusing him. That extended his sentence. However, he has now escaped because his daughter died and he wants to go bury her. Viewers will be seeing Ringo trying to get to his daughter’s funeral. At this point, I’m not sure if the role is a short or long-term thing. I’ve worked with Stained Glass before, so the environment wasn’t new. It was easy for me to do the work. Working with them is always a pleasure and a privilege. Hopefully, this role will become permanent,” he said.
Durban Gen is the first South African medical soapie and it premiered in October 2020. The soapie hit the 2 million viewership mark after 3 months of viewership. Unfortunately Lerato Nxumalo will be jumping that ship for new series, Lingashoni. Lingashoni will premier on 1Magic on the 22nd of March at 19.30. Joining Lerato Nxumalo on thr cast are Patrick Mofokeng, Thuli Thabethe and Thato Molamu.
“This story has the hallmarks of a hit telenovela series with twists and turns that will explore the concept of family, blended family drama, high stakes, the dark underworld of crime and suspense that will keep viewers engaged with every episode. We have observed that our valued 1Magic viewers have become accustomed to juicy storylines and exceptional talent. Therefore, we are excited that these two elements meet political power and crime in what looks set to be a thriller” says Nomsa Philiso, the Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net.
