Breaking: Zimbabwe’s Covid-19 positive cases have now spiked to 132. The 76 new cases have been recorded in the Beitbridge, Masvingo and Harare. All new cases except one have been registered among returnees from mainly SA and Botswana. Only one case is a local transmission.

The new cases have added to the existing 56 cases that were recorded in Zimbabwe.

The spike in cases is likely to cause a prolonged lockdown period for Zimbabwe. South Africa has is yet to flatten its curve as cases increase in their thousands daily. South Africa currently has 24,264 coronavirus cases and 524 deaths. Almost half of the cases have recovered.
Border jumpers risk
Zimbabwe faces a serious problem with border jumpers who are not being confined to quarantine centres. Dozens of smugglers cross the Limpopo to and from South Africa everyday. A newly erected South Africa border fence has not deterred the illegal activity.
