Bishop Zondo used red oil to kill church members, says former church elder
A former church elder in Bishop Zondo’s Rivers of Living Waters Church revealed shocking details when he appeared before the CRL Rights commission on Wednesday.
Andries Moloi said Bishop Zondo preached about a deadly holy oil that he would use against people who opposed him.
He approached Zondo to understand more about the oil but he did not get answers, Moloi said before the commission set up to investigate sexual abuse and financial crimes committed by the bishop.
Wowed by Zondo’s sermons while watching on TV, Moloi joined the church in 2011 and worshipped from the Springs branch in Ekurhuleni. He went on to spend substantial amounts ranging from R3000 to R10,000 per month in maintaining the branch.
‘When I joined I had money. But when I was broke I became the church laughing stock,” Andries told te commission. “I was called names and told I was stupid after spending all my money in the same church to see it prosper,” he continued.
Moloi was shocked to hear the Bishop preach that he uses red oil mixed with sand to kill.
“He gave an example of a known car thief who’d been hit by a speeding car. He said that’s what happens when he used his oil on a person. “I was shocked that people came to church to seek help and comfort yet they preached about killing. I knew something wasn’t right.” He told Zondo about the pastor, but no action was taken against him. “My kids warned me about the church and refused to attend. I’m grateful they didn’t follow me. I don’t think his powers are from God,” Moloi told the commission.
Earlier, the commission heard from women who were allegedly sexually abused and raped by Zondo, including his sister.
Bishop Zondo will be given an opportunity to respond to the allegations.
