Big Zulu and Phumlani Njilo exchange fists in the ring. Renowned rapper Big Zulu is unhappy after he was defeated by Pietermaritzburg-based entrepreneur Phumlani Njilo in an exhibition fight.
The exciting celebrity boxing match, fittingly named Impi: The War, took place at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban on Saturday.
The event attracted a good crowd that featured artists like DJ Tira, Zakwe, Hlengiwe Mhlaba and comedians.
Before the fight started, Big Zulu, whose real name is Siyabonga Nene, claimed that he would knock Njilo out before the fourth round, a remark that intrigued entertainment and boxing fans.
The claim annoyed Njilo and motivated him for their bout.
He devised a strategy to annoy Big Zulu by moving around the ring, landing a few punches here and there, and clinging to his bulky opponent.
Referee Sipho Zondo should have warned Njilo, as his tactics disrupted the fight’s rhythm and sparked accusations of cheating.
After the result, Big Zulu expressed his dissatisfaction.
Fight against Nyovest on the cards “Maybe I’m not familiar with boxing rules but this guy stepped on my feet many times and he was not reprimanded,” said Big Zulu.
“I couldn’t deliver my punches properly. Anyway, well done to him because his strategy to irritate me worked for him.”
The 30-year-old Njilo, who is the CEO of Induduzo Bespoke Funerals and brother to Nzuzo Njilo, Faith Nketsi’s separated husband, was pleased to beat Big Zulu in the ring.
“Big Zulu put up a hard fight and is a wonderful human being. Now I’m eager for another fight with another celebrity,” Njilo said.
Dr Hlula Dladla, the promoter for Hlula Dladla Promotions, revealed that Big Zulu’s next fight will be against Cassper Nyovest, causing the crowd to cheer in excitement.
Nyovest, whose birth name is Refiloe Maele Phoolo, has previously fought against YouTuber Slik Talk, actor and musician NaakMusiQ, and Priddy Ugly.”
