Award-winning music producer Prince Kaybee is once again facing allegations of song theft. This time, Gqom artist Bhizer (real name Sibonelo Dimba) claims that Prince Kaybee stole his song in 2020 and used it without crediting him. The song in question was later released by Prince Kaybee featuring vocalist Nolwazi under the title “Sofa Silahlane”.
Bhizer alleges that he sent the song, originally titled “Luv Song,” to Prince Kaybee in 2020. After not hearing back from the DJ for a while, Bhizer was surprised to hear a song with similar melodies on the radio in 2021. To his dismay, Prince Kaybee had reworked the song and released it without acknowledging Bhizer’s contribution.
In a Facebook post, Bhizer expressed frustration, stating, “Botlhale Phora, you are not the only one, bro. Kudala esiqeda lombhemu ngama Idea & melodies (This guy has been abusing us). Please listen. You guys can also share and compare these songs and tell me if they are not similar” 1. Bhizer also mentioned that Durban singer TNS had previously warned about Prince Kaybee’s behavior, but unfortunately, his warnings went unheeded.
Despite his fear of being blacklisted in the music industry, Bhizer has decided to speak up after witnessing Botlhale’s similar experience. He expressed his determination not to let the matter rest and plans to seek legal advice 1. As of now, Prince Kaybee has not responded to the allegations.
It’s unfortunate that artists like Bhizer face such challenges, but their courage in speaking out helps shed light on issues of creativity, credit, and artistic integrity in the music industry. Hopefully, this situation will lead to a fair resolution and greater awareness about the importance of giving credit where it’s due.
