BET Hip Hop Awards: Nasty C loses to Stromzy
Nasty C has lost out to Stromzy at the just ended BET Hip Hop Awards.
This is the second time the Juice Back hitmaker has lost out in the Best International Flow category. Last year, Nasty C lost out to Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie. This year Nasty C was battling it out with Kenyan artist Khaligraph Jones, the UK’s Stormzy and Ms Banks, French stars Meryl and Kaaris, and Djonga from Brazil.
Megan Thee Stallion was the biggest winner at the awards bagging three awards including hip hop artist of the year. She was the second woman to win in the category in the past three years. Nicki Minaj was the first female artist to win in the category in 2011 followed by Cardi B.
Megan Thee Stallion also took home the best collaboration award for her Savage Remix featuring Beyonce. The rapper also set a record with the win which is the first all-female song to win in that category. Other women who set records at this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards were Rapsody who became the first woman to win lyricist of the year with Teyana Taylor becoming the second woman in three years after Karena Evans, to win best video director of the year.
Other artists who set records were Roddy Rich who won the hip hop album of the year with his debut album. This is the first time a debut album has won in the category. The late Pop Smoke became the second artist in three years to win best new hip hop artist posthumously. The first being XXXtentacion. Nipsey Hussle also won the award a few months after he was shot dead.
