Police target vehicles without number plates
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said they will be targeting vehicles not displaying registration plates.
In a statement on Friday, police national spokesperson Paul Nyathi announced the new action plan they have launched against vehicles moving on the roads without number plates.
Nyathi urged car owners to ensure that their vehicles are displaying temporary or permanent number plates.
He also said only vehicles which have the requisite moratorium under the current COVID- 19 national lockdown regulations from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development will be allowed to pass through checkpoints while displaying temporary registration plates.
Nyathi said police will impound all vehicles moving with no number plates to curb cases of robbery, mushika shika, among others.

POLICE ACTION ON VEHICLES NOT DISPLAYING REGISTRATION PLATES
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has in terms of the Vehicle Licensing and Registration Act 13:14 launched an operation targeting vehicles which are moving on the roads without displaying registration number plates.
Members of the public, particularly vehicle owners and drivers, are therefore urged to ensure that their vehicles are either displaying perm vent or temporary number plates as required under the law Only vehicles which have the requisite moratorium under the current COVID- 19 national lockdown regulations from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development will be allowed to pass through checkpoints while displaying temporary registration plates.
It is disturbing to note that some commuter omnibuses have resorted to removing and hiding registration number plates in order to evade roadblocks or checkpoints. Some are even using feeder roads in both urban and rural areas as the drivers commit various offences under the current national lockdown.
We urge all law abiding citizens to drive vehicles with genuine number plates. Police officers will be strictly treating anyone driving a vehicle without registration plates with suspicion. Therefore it is incumbent upon each motorist to ensure that his or her vehicle as registration number plates for the smooth maintenance of law and order.
