Angry Uzalo’s Mbatha confronts SABC1 management
SABC1 management has been once again found off guard when it comes to salary and royalty woes. Of late the management has been making all sorts of headlines from Uzalo salary woes to Family Bonds royalties drama.
Uzalo firebrand Thabo Mnguni who plays Mbatha has harshly demanded SABC to pay up royalties for actors who were part of the popular comedy series, Family Bonds. This comes after the management of SABC1 has been playing repeat episodes of the show.
However, Mbatha who played Bra Steve on the show is threatening the SABC management who have not been giving them conclusive feedback on the issue.
Thabo indicated that the cast and the showrunners are yet to reach a conclusive agreement when it comes to royalties. He indicated that they have been going forth with the TV station for some time now and nothing has come out of the discussions.

It has been established that the cast has been demanding royalties a few years ago. And after he got in contact with the channel’s Aobakwe Sekwati, there seemed to progress in the claims.
The sad part of it is that Sekwati has gone Awol since 2020 and this has been stalling progress. Now Thabo believes SABC1 is playing games with them and may not be willing to pay up royalties for the show.
However, the disgruntled actor took it to the media to air out his disappointment. Speaking to the Daily Sun the actor indicated that the showrunners are now playing mind games with them.
He even went on to stress out that he needed this money to feed his family that was affected by Covid-19 effects.
“I am a family man. The money will come in handy since there are a lot of Covid-19 restrictions.”
However, it seems as if his relentless effort has paid off after SABC spokeswoman Mmoni Seapolelo promised that the public broadcaster will take into consideration the matter beforehand. It was established that SABC 1 is said to have last paid royalties to Family Bonds back in 2016.
