Durban is expected to be a hotspot for the entertainment industry in July, with many celebrities flocking to the city for events such as the Durban July. About 48,000 people are expected to attend the event at the Greyville Racecourse.

Anele Mdoda’s Advice for Attendees

947 presenter Anele Mdoda took to her timeline to offer some advice to those planning to attend the Durban July. She urged attendees to have a concrete plan for how they will get home after the event. Anele compared the weekend to doing iVosho, saying that attendees should know how they will come up while they are going down.

Durban July chronicles are about to be all over the timeline. Please please Abeg…have a concrete plan now on how you are getting home. Treat this weekend like doing iVosho… you must know how you are going to come up whilst you are going down. Thanks for attending my Ted Talk.

Calls for Boycott of Durban July

On Tuesday, news reporters reported that the KwaZulu-Natal civic group Umsinsi Wokuzimilela called for a boycott of Saturday’s horse racing event.

Safety Concerns Addressed by eThekwini Mayor

Amid concerns about safety, eThekwini mayor Mxolisi Kaunda said that law enforcement agencies will be deployed to strategic areas during the Durban July to ensure the safety of patrons and residents. About 100 metro police officers will be deployed around the Greyville area, and the metro police’s public order policing unit will be on high alert to ensure an incident-free event.
