Denis Goldberg dies – Struggle stalwart Denis Goldberg has died aged 87.
Denis Goldberg was convicted for treason in the 1960’s with Nelson Mandela. He spend 22 years in prison at a whites only prison facility.
Goldberg succumbed to heart condition and stage 4 lung cancer.

“His family and the Denis Goldberg Legacy Foundation Trust are very sad to announce that Denis Goldberg passed away just before midnight on Wednesday 29 April 2020. His was a life well lived in the struggle for freedom in South Africa. We will miss him,” said the Denis Goldberg Legacy Foundation Trust.
Denis was born in Cape Town on 11 April 1933 and died on 29 April 2020. He was born in a family that valued people of other races including black people. His parents Annie and Sam Goldberg were politically active and believed in equality. Denis Goldberg was active against apartheid and was imprisoned for 22 years
In July 1963 the white security police pounced on a secret meeting place, farmhouses in Rivonia in Johannesburg. Goldberg and other struggle key members including Walter Sisulu were arrested and subjected to interrogations and torture.
During their detention, Goldberg and others were threatened with death sentence. After being charged with offences under the Sabotage Act. Goldberg was sent to a white only section of Pretoria Central prison while others were locked up at Robben Island.
