Multi-Grammy-award-winning soul singer Peabo Bryson is set to perform in South Africa on Valentine’s Day next year. The singer will bring him I Wish You Love tour to the RustyRocks festival on February 17, 2024, where he will take to the stage at the Sun City Superbowl for a night of love and song.
A Long-Awaited Performance
RustyRocks organizer Teboho Twala expressed excitement at the prospect of welcoming the iconic singer to South Africa. “We are happy to welcome the iconic Paebo Bryson onto our shores. It has been a long time coming. Music lovers will be in for a treat this coming Valentine’s Day,” said Twala.
A Legend in the Music Industry
Peabo Bryson is a two-time Grammy winner, eight-time Grammy nominee, and two-time Oscar-winning soul & RnB legend. He is known for hits such as Can You Stop The Rain, the title track on his chart-topping first of two albums for Columbia Records.
Bryson’s music is no stranger to South African ears. He is among the many American musicians whose songs have set the tone and mood for radio stations on Sunday afternoons.
A Love for Music
In a statement shared with news reporters, Bryson spoke about how his family instilled in him not only a strong work ethic but also a love for music. “My mother was a serious music lover. Whenever there was somebody great in town, she’d drag us along to catch their act. I have seen most of the greats of that period – Sam Cooke, Little Richard and even Billie Holiday. Sam Cooke was a great influence on me. His voice had a pure quality, straight from the heart,” he said.
Bryson also spoke about how his upbringing influenced his music. “I think the sensitivity in my songs stems from my early childhood. I was raised by women – my grandmother until she died and my mother. My grandmother lived and loved with incredible passion,” he said.
