Taxi operators have decided to raise fares by over 270% in response to the government regulations on the lock down. The government restricted taxis to carry passengers at 70% capacity. The taxi bosses have also cited the rise in spare parts and fuel prices. Alex to Sandton now R30
“Due to the government stipulated regulations of decreasing passenger load to 70% and fuel increase as well as motor spares increase our taxis will with effect from 15 June 2020 increase fares to R30 across the board. The increase is necessary as we a re losing revenue and government is not assisting taxi operations,” read a notice on one of the taxis in the area.
