Casting News: Albert Ibokwe Khoza makes history in Blood Psalms series
The Johannesburg born actor and performance artist Albert Ibokwe Khoza makes history on his debut TV role in Blood Psalms series.
Khoza will smash the gender barrier as the first male to play a cis-female character on SA mainstream series, He plays Madlamini, Zazi (main character)’s Governess on Blood Psalms series.
The role will the first in South Africa when a man plays a female role without the switch being part of the storyline and differs from actress Chi Mhende’s Wandile Generations role where the transgender process was part of the soapie storyline.
Blood Psalms is a new local drama series coming to Showmax in 2021, a collaboration of Multichoice and global broadcasting television operator CANAL+.
Inspired by a Xhosa legend, it tells the story of a fierce African queen, Zazi who battles a world-ending prophecy to navigate her people through complexities, politics, and endless wars.
The 10-episode series that will be available to stream on Showmax in 2021 features a sprawling cast of more than 50 black actors and is filmed in the Eastern Cape, Gauteng and North West provinces in South Africa.
The sprawling cast includes names ranging from Albert Ibokwe Khoza, Sello Maake Ka Ncube, Thando Thabethe, Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa, and Faith Baloyi to Siv Ngesi, Hlubi Mboya, Warren Masemola and many more.
