AKA’s family reveals memorial and funeral service details, limited tickets in store. The funeral details of late rap superstar Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, who was tragically gunned down with his former manager, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, have been released by the Forbes family.
They expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from friends, family, and fans of the Fela In Versace hitmaker. The family thanked the public for their support and is preparing for AKA’s funeral. AKA and Tibz helped pave the way for many artists in the industry, leaving them devastated by this senseless act.
“We as the Forbes family would like to acknowledge the outpouring of love we have received over the past few days. Kiernan wasn’t just loved by us as a family but by the nation,” they wrote in part.

They continued by saying they would like to celebrate his life with everyone who loved him, “…his memorial will therefore be open to the public as well as streamed online.” The funeral details are as follows:
“Kiernan will be laid to rest in a private provincial funeral on Saturday, 18 February 2023.”
His memorial service will take place on Friday, 17 February, at the Sandton Convention Centre at 3PM. Those who wish to attend can do so by purchasing tickets at Web tickets. However, they will be limited. His memorial service will also be live-streamed on his AKAworldwide YouTube channel. The Forbes family confirmed his death in a statement asking for privacy from fans.
“It is with extreme sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our beloved son and confirm his untimely and tragic passing on the evening of February 10, 2023. We are awaiting further details from Durban police,” wrote Tony and Lynn Forbes.
“To us, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend, most importantly, father to his beloved daughter Kairo,” his parents added. “To many, he was AKA Supa Mega, Bhova and the many other names of affection his legion of fans called him by. Our son was loved and gave love in return.”
