Cotton Fest shared the list of performers scheduled for this year’s event, and that list received mixed reactions from the public. The list put AKA and Cassper Nyovest as headliners at the event. More than 100 artists have been confirmed for The Cotton Fest, which will happen for two days this April.
The music and fashion event was initially set in February, but it was delayed due to Riky Rick’s shocking passing.
The Cotton Fest showcases and celebrates well known South African Music and Fashion. Riky Rick represented both Music and Fashion very well. He was known for his love for fashion and even released a song called Sidl”ukotini”, a Zulu slang for dressing Fashionable.
The Cotton Fest returns after 20 months due to the restrictions imposed during the Covid 19 regulations.
The much-awaited event will be a two-day event set to take place from 22 to 23 April 2023 in Newtown Carr street at the station.
Cotton Fest created confusion when they released a list of this year’s performers on their social media pages.
The confusion came from the diverse musicians that have been scheduled to perform this year.
The list includes other than AKA and Cassper Nyovest, DBN Gogo, Lady Du, Kamo Mphela and Big Zulu, to name but a few.
Hip Hop fans said they were confused because they thought it was a Hip Hop event only. Many noted that there are more Amapiano artists than Hip Hop artists whom the show was originally about.
Other users tried to calm the situation by saying different genres of musicians joined this year to honour Ricky Rick, the originator of the Cotton Fest.
Others reacted that Cassper was allegedly not in a good relationship with Rick anymore, while some didn’t even understand why AKA was there.
The class of 2022 will feature a respectable number of Hip Hop stars, though, including big guns like Emtee, Boity Thulo, A-Reece and Khuli Chana.
A few hours ago, the Cotton Fest website mentioned that they had opened the second round of ticket sales.
Those who had lost out in buying the tickets the first time now have the opportunity to attend this very anticipated event.
Riky Rick, the founder of the Cotton Fest, shocked everyone when he suddenly passed away in February this year.
