Actress Sindi Dlathu blasted for casting sister Tina Dlathu on The River, as views drop. The River has been making all sorts of headlines for the wrong reasons. The drama series has had an in-depth view, and its viewers want the drama series to be canned. The Mzansi Magic drama series change in plot and storyline has been credited to its downfall. Recycled storylines and a mass exodus of actors have worsened the series’ woes.
Taking it to social media, Mzansi weighed in and blasted the showrunners for the downfall of the drama series. However, they also lashed producers for casting family members into the drama series based on family ties rather than acting prowess.
Of interest, this is not the first time the drama series has been implicated in these bad auditions. A few years ago, veteran actress Moshidi Motshegwa called it quits with the drama series after she revealed that they had hired Larona Moagi on The River. Describing her work relationship with Larona Moagi on The River, the veteran actress has this to say.
”It was very difficult to work with Larona. We can’t cast people from Instagram, give them a huge role and not give them support. Moshidi continued to add:” I even said at the meeting(with producers) that Larona is struggling because she is not an actress and has been given a huge role to play. This is a craft. It is a skill.”
‘I always challenged the directors, I phoned Gwydion( Executive Producer and Writer) and told him this does not make sense. She continued to add:” I completely and totally invested in this character. I didn’t short change her,” Moshidi defends her diva attitude.
Mzansi goes after actress Sindi Dlathu after casting sister Tina Dlathu on The River, blamed for drop in views
However, it seems as if the showrunners didn’t take hid of the red flags. The drama series is now topping the trends again for the same reason. This time, it hired Tina Dlathu, who happens to be lead actress Sindi Dlathu’s sister. Dlathu also doubles as a co-exectutive producer of the drama series.
Tina portrays the role of Khwezi on The River. She is the youngest child of the powerful and wealthy Hlophe family that was introduced to season 5 of the 1Magic telenovela. The Hlope family is headed by Bukhosi (portrayed by actor Bheki Mkhwane), a traditional patriarch who is smart and dangerous. However, in the mix of things, Mzansiisnt convinced with her acting. Many have it that she was hired out of merit rather than talent.
