Hlomla Dandala has been playing the character of Zweli Dikana for half a decade on The River. The character of Zweli was filled with drama caped with thrills, making Mzansi love to hate him. He was Lindiwe’s husband, a female mining mogul with a ruthless streak who could do anything to protect her legacy. However, the celebrated actor is exiting the show to explore other opportunities in the entertainment industry.
In the trailer of season five of the award-winning telenovela, The River Nomonde and Mabuthi get married. During the wedding ceremony, police commissioner Zweli Dikana discovered that Mabuto was implicated in an undisclosed crime and Zwelu had to arrest him.

But instead, Mabutho during the confrontation with his father-in-law in the bathroom of the wedding venue, Mabutho pushes Zweli and hits his head against the sink. Nomonde knocked on the door, and Mabutho panicked, and Zweli was bleeding profusely on the floor.
The trailer was a bomb leaving Mzansi wondering if Zwel would die kissing goodbye to The River.
Hlomala Dandala exit The River
A Twitterati, Phil Mphela, shared that the celebrated actor Hloma Dandala who plays the National Police Commissioner Zweli Dikana is exiting The River.
A confirmed source revealed that the character of Zweli would die on the show, and his death would expose the beast in Lindiwe, his wife. We had experience Lindiwe-the mom, when she realised Tumi was her daughter when she lost Mbali- the grieving mom and now without Zweli. The end of Zweli would make Lindiwe go through another transition.
With the news now confirmed, Mzansi took to Twitter to analyse how the death of Zweli will change the telenovela’s storyline. First, they highlighted that the trailer was delivered to indicate the imminent departure of Zweli, with the significant concern being how Lindiwe is meant to deal with the loss of her Zweli.
Reasons Why Hlomla Dandala is leaving The River
Although the actual reasons Hlomla decided to leave The River have not been disclosed, rumours have it that he is aware of how boring The River is now, and he was jumping the ship before it falls into further disrepute.
Other unconfirmed sources say that he dumped the show as he has won another acting gig where he is getting a better salary than the wages he was paid on The River.
