ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule has warned Hawks to step back from causing a scene following reports that his arrest is imminent. Magashule fears a ‘Hollywood style’ of the arrest is coming towards his direction.
According to City Press, Magashule told the Hawks and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) that there is no need for a “media spectacle” if any criminal charges are to be preferred against him.
Magashule accuses the Hawks and the NPA for spreading fake news regarding reports that he was served with a warrant of the arrest last week.
Despite Magashule confirming that he had received the warrant of arrest, he later denied it and asserted that his lawyers were in the process of ‘verifying’ the warrant. He went on to say the reports of his arrest had been exaggerated.
On Wednesday, in a letter to the two law enforcement bodies through his lawyer, Victor Nkhwashu, Magashule said he was not persuaded that the widely circulated media reports.
Part of the letter read,
“This letter serves to notify you that, should you have the intention of ensuring our client’s attendance at any court of law, it should be achieved with due regard to his constitutional rights.”
The reports of Magashule’s arrest warrant are widely believed to have been manufactured by himself in an attempt to test waters and send a warning to his political opponents if they ever attempt to have him arrested.
His supporters immediately swung into his defence, promising war is the Hawks ever push him into one of their Golf GTIs.
Opposition politician Bantu Holomisa says Magashule’s warning to the hawks is all because of the ANC’s wish to protect their tender violations and continue with the abuse of people’s funds.
“All because of the ANC’s wish to introduce a new National Anthem for South Africa, LOVE ME TENDER,” Holomisa wrote on Twitter.
Magashule reportedly confirmed his arrest, which turned out not to be true, on Tuesday at 8:30 pm.
“I’m aware. I’m aware,“ he said. ’’It’s going to be a Hollywood style type of thing. But we will see,” Magashule told IOL.
