Thapelo Molomo was thrust into the limelight when he joined Idols SA as a contestant. When he started his journey in the competition, the singer went on leave from his duties as a warrant officer at a Brits police station in North West to focus on his music. His journey on Idols SA was bumpy, but he paved the way for himself, and through his hard work and determination, he was announced the winner of Idols SA season 18.
Molomo was the first police officer in the history of Idols SA to win the show. He won the crown as Idols SA 2022 season 18 winner, along with amazing prizes. This includes a prize haul of just over R1 million cash, a brand-new car and vouchers to purchase expensive clothes from Truworth.
Thapelo Molomo’s first day back at work after ‘Idols SA’ victory
After his great victory on Idols, SA Thapelo reported to work on Monday, the 12th of December and received a warm welcome. Talking to news reporters, Thapelo said:
My first day at work was so beautiful. My colleagues were so welcoming, everyone was so excited. We took a lot of pictures and they asked me many questions about how I am coping and questions surrounding my Idols SA experience
SA Police Service SAPS once beamed with pride on social media after Thapelo made it to the top 5. The SAPS wished him well and hoped he would win the grand prize. Like they had wanted to, Thapelo won the competition and made his work colleagues proud. He also bragged about how his workmates have supported him since he started his journey on Idols SA.
In his own words, Thapelo said:
The police service has been a family to me, very supportive. They are very supportive of my music career. They indicated they will continue to support me provided I continue to do my work as expected. During the week most of the time I will be at work and do music after hours, like studio sessions and so forth. Then weekend is definitely music nothing else. I’m excited to be part of the SAPS and about going back to work while juggling music

Thapelo is originally from Limpopo, and his win on Idols SA has people from Limpopo beaming with pride. Limpopo citizens were happy that Thapelo represented them well and raised their flag high.
He was the first Limpopo citizen to win Idols SA, and his victory also caught the attention of Makhadzi. Award-winning singer Makhadzi who also hails from Limpopo posted Thapelo on her social media handles and acknowledged his efforts in making Limpopo proud and singing her hit song Limpopo.
As of late, Thapelo is the man of the moment and has gained a massive following on Instagram after his win on Idols SA.
