Raphael Griffiths is half Zambian, half Zulu and his father come from Dundee; he was born in Johannesburg, where he studied for his primary and secondary education. His ambition while growing up was to study political sciences, but he later switched his interest to drama. Raphael holds a certificate in Television Production from AFDA.

He has been playing Zithulele on Imbewu The Seed since its season one, and Mzansi love to hate his character.
