Prince Kaybee Offers ‘Notes’ for Improving Yvonne Chaka Chaka’s Off-Pitch Performance
Producer Prince Kaybee shares a different perspective on Yvonne Chaka Chaka’s viral “off-pitch” performance video. At the same time, internet trolls mock the Umqombothi singer and reference Brenda Fassie’s quote that Yvonne can’t sing.
Prince Kaybee believes Yvonne Chaka Chaka’s team could have improved the acoustics of her viral “off-pitch” performance video.
“Her team let her down, this was meant to be edited in post, pitch corrected, reverb and the keys needed to be sustained not short quantised like that. Also because it’s as good as an a cappella, assistance with low octave harmonies are paramount,” he tweeted, adding he wished he could remake the video with Yvonne.

Despite debates about her singing abilities, Prince Kaybee maintains that Yvonne Chaka Chaka’s viral “off-pitch” performance video could have been improved.
Yvonne has had a successful career and has branched out into philanthropy, entrepreneurship, and radio with the launch of Woman Radio.
“We have 24 presenters. Our youngest is 15. She does a show called Youth-ish. I am one of the oldest presenters, on a Thursday. The biggest downfall of online radio is the cost of data. #Datamustfall, the government must pursue that policy. Our radio station talks about everything. We have a transgender presenter, we talk about GBV and we say to men come to the party.”
Talking about lifelong learning, her businesses and pressure of being a public figure, Yvonne said: “Everybody’s here for a reason. And nothing pressurises me. For me, I’m not a public figure. I’m just a mother to my four sons, a wife for my husband. I do what I can to the best of my ability and I make mistakes like everybody. It took me five years of trying and failing to launch my hair product. You remember I had dreads. But I don’t despair. I ask what makes me happy? When I don’t know, I want to always ask why. I’ve gone back to school because I think there are those who know better than me. And they can impart their knowledge to me,” she told Sunday Times.
