Mabutho makes a shocking return on The River. No doubt The River has been struggling with it’s storyline, and the mass exodus of seasoned lead actors gave the drama series a final death blow.
In recent seasons the drama series was regarded as one of the best captivating drama series ,but a change in its plot and storyline took a toll on the drama series.
However, in the mix of things rumour mill has it that fan-favourite Mabutho character, played by Thembinkosi Mthembu, is returning to the show.
The celebrated actor hogged headlines when he bowed out of the drama series back them in May. However, the reasons behind his exit were not known. In the mix of things close sources had it that he had a short exit so that can star in the much-talked-about upcoming Shaka iLembe biopic.
He bowed out in style on The River. Lindiwe kicked Mabutho off a cliff after she learnt of his involvement in the diamond smuggling at Khanyisa Diamond.

Well the long wait is over since it has been confirmed that he will returning on The River. Reports have it he is already on set and shooting his scenes. Of interest is the fact that he will be making his much-talked-about return before the drama series wrap up its dramatit season five which has been marred with mass exodus of actors.
His return leaves alot to be desired since season five made it’s debut with flash foward. Mzansi has been left guessing on Mabutho’s character and storyline of late.
But it seems that Mabutho might be returning as a member of the Hlophe family. A fact which might explain why Lindiwe did not kill him upon his return.
After all this might explain how he could make all that money in a space of two months as The River season five is set to conclude in February 2023. While Mabutho’s relation with the Hlophes might explain his riches. A plotpoint that the story will need to figure out would be why the Hlophes were not at his wedding with Nomonde.
