Award-winning actor Desmond Dube opens up about living on the streets and being homeless. Undoubtedly, Desmond Dube has been the most extraordinary and consistent media personality in South Africa. We might know him from commercials, but he is a big name on small screens. He has been making all sorts of headlines after he opened up about his private life, leaving Mzansi inspired by how he has worked hard to pave the way for himself in the entertainment industry and became a big name.
As many are getting ready for the festive season, Desmond Dube took to Instagram and shared how this season is essential to him. He revealed that 30 years ago, he was living in the streets because he was homeless, but payers helped him, and God changed his story.
Talking to Instagram, Desmond Dube wrote:
Prayer saved me:
This time of the year means a lot to me and millions of people around the world.
But thirty odd years ago, I was living on the streets and homeless. That was both terrifying and confusing.
The streets of Joburg become empty and eerie( on the other hand very clean, if you care about that). It sounds amazing for those who prefer a quieter environment I know. But it’s agony for those who have nowhere to go and no one to share the misery with.

With his fane today in the entertainment industry, many would not believe that Desmond Dube has from rags to riches story to tell. He was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but he is the epitome of hard work who stops at nothing to be successful.
While growing up, the notion of being rich and famous was far-fetched for him as he comes from a poverty-stricken household.
In his Instagram post, Desmond Dube also said;
I depended on God. I knew someone out there prayed for me and others like me. Prayer became my protector when the police were focused the festivities and I learned quickly that criminals don’t have “holidays” because the street become even more dangerous for those who seem vulnerable and easy targets.
I ask you to include those who don’t have anyone to share the holidays with in your prayers and please pray for the safety of those who will be travelling home and back.
Desmond Dube’s post left Mzansi emotional, and other A-list celebrities like Nay Maps also came on his post and thanked him for uploading such an inspiring post.
