Zimbabweans have defied the national day of prayer and fasting and some social media users have pictured themselves enjoying their meals. The President of Zimbabwe ED Mnangagwa called the nation to fast and pray so the country can get out of the present economic and health crisis it finds itself in. The President set aside 15 June as the Zimbabwe National Day of Prayer and Fasting.
‘Zimbabweans have been fasting for 3 years’
Zimbabweans say they have been fasting for the past three years since President Mnangagwa came to power. They argue they are forced by hunger to fast.
The purchasing power of the Zimbabwe dollar has been eroded by inflation and ever rising exchange rate between the local dollar and other foreign currencies.
The depreciation in the currency places Zimbabwe just behind Venezuela as on of the countries with currencies that have lost much value compared to others. The rate of Inflation in Zimbabwe at 766% is also only second to Venezuela at 2,297%.
Most Zimbabweans are living beloe the poverty datum line.

National Day of Anti Looting day
Some Zimbabweans have hijacked the day and renamed the National Day For Anti looting. The day comes as the President Mnangagwa’s son Collins is accused of conniving with one Delis Nguwaya to fleece the Zimbabwe government by charging USD 28 per mask. The Mnangagwa linked company called Drax International was awarded a contract totaling USD 60 million since end of last year and has been subject to investigations in Hungary over suspicious transactions and money laundering. Nguwaya has since been arrested.
