Police Minister Bheki Cele wants another alcohol ban, says there is sufficient evidence to ban alcohol sales again.
Cele revealed that the lifting of alcohol has done more harm than good. He revealed that crime rate increased since the ban on the sale of alcohol was lifted.
The minister said this on his visit to the families of two slain Durban Metro police officers who were gunned down on their way to work on Tuesday morning in Hammersdale.
The two were traveling in a private car when they were murdered in a planned assassination.
He claims that if the reversal on the alcohol sale decision was only his, he could have reversed it a long time ago.
“I have said it all the time that if I were given the opportunity to run and decide alone on this matter, then my first prize would be to ban the alcohol because I believe there is a lot of evidence that it is not doing good,” Minister Bheki Cele said.
Minister Cele hopes the National Coronavirus Command Council will do the right thing and impose an alcohol ban again.
