Mbali has been officially welcomed to the Diale family as their child on Generations The Legacy this week. The ceremony had been coming for days, and it was beautiful.
In case you don’t remember, Mbali was adopted by Lucy and Mrekza legally, but Dr Langa told them to introduce her to their ancestors.
The Diales went all out, bought a goat and everything.
Imbeleko is a very special and respected ceremony for the black culture. It is done to introduce a newborn and occasionally an adult who needs it to the elders and the ancestors of the family.
The neighbours are called to help celebrate the day and with the cooking.
The show’s viewers are impressed because these whole procedures were followed by the Tee.
Firstly the Soapie decided to go out on location to shoot the ceremony. The Soapie shoots all of its scenes in the studio, and we always see the interior of Lucy’s and Mbali’s imbeleko, giving us a full view of the Diale household in Alex for the first time. Viewers were taken out to see the natural sun for the first time since Gen The Legacy started.
Secondly, the ladies were dressed to the nines. Nontle, Nontle, Lucy and Mbali were all dressed beautifully for the ceremony.
Thirdly they made traditional beer (Umqombothi), which went wrong because Lucy had never learnt to make it. Viewers feel that the story is an accurate depiction because then Lucy goes and gets help from an elder, Gog’ Zondiwe.
A fire was made in the ground, and food was cooked on three feet pots that are normally used for cooking on the ground.
Fans of the show have welcomed the show’s efforts by going on location and giving us a change of scenery.
Mbali has been going through a difficult time after the Holy House fire, where she almost died. She blocked the whole situation out of her mind and went into depression, prompting Lucy to seek professional help.
Mbali’s imbeleko also saw her get back her friendship with Melo and Nontle after falling out for a few years.
These three went everywhere together until that trip to Cape Town. Nontle and Melo left Mbali behind because she was underage, and that caused a rift between them.
