Rember the House Duo Liquideep? This is what they are up to now.
Many South African youth grew up to the sound of Liquideep on television or the radio as it was one of the most known musical duo around 2010. The band was made up of Thabo Shokgolo, who was the producer and DJ, and Jonathan Hamilton, who was the composer and singer. However, the duo parted ways in 2014 and worked on their personal and solo careers.
How Liquideep was formed
Jonathan ‘Ziyon’ and Thabo ‘Ryzor’ met in 2006 through a mutual friend and started chatting about music. Ryzor was a DJ who wanted to learn how to Produce, while Ziyon was a producer who wanted to learn how to DJ. The two then taught each other their specialities and started making music in 2009. In 2009 they dropped Fairytale, and the song blew up internationally, making the album they released that year, Fabrics of the heart, their best album to date.
Since the two were well travelled, they found a way to blend the African house beats with the international cultures. They also liked performing live for crowds than releasing music videos as they claimed they got honest opinions from their fans. When they parted ways, it was due to their issues, and Thabo ‘Ryzor’ has opened up about how his career in the limelight was affecting his personal, mental and religious life.
Jonathan ‘Ziyon’ Hamilton
After the group parted ways, he continued with his solo career as a musician and stayed true to his sound. Liquideep’s Twitter account for a few years promoted his music and gigs as a solo artist. In 2018 he released a successful EP called Clear Skies and won an award of Best Male Artist at the SA Dance Music Awards. He also gets booked to perform at clubs and shows and still releases his music.
Ziyon has always been a secretive person and still does not post about his private life on social media. In an interview, he once said he wanted to get married later in life and have a family, but he is still yet to show his family on a public platform.
Thabo ‘Ryzor’ Shokgolo
Ryzor does not have social media accounts, and people have no idea what he is up to as a solo artist. However, he is not releasing any music, but he is also the one who left the music for his religious beliefs. The man was a family guy who was married when he was still in Liquideep. He left the career in the limelight for a quiet career in the church with his family.
